5 Lighting Scenes Every Singaporean Home Should Have

Why scenes matter more than smart bulbs

The biggest mistake first-time smart home buyers make is thinking about individual devices instead of experiences. A smart bulb that you manually turn on and off via an app isn’t meaningfully better than a dumb switch.

The magic happens when your lights respond to your life — automatically, effortlessly. That’s what scenes do. Here are the five that make the biggest difference for Singapore households.

1. Good Morning scene

Triggered: 6:30am on weekdays, 7:30am on weekends (or when motion is detected in the bedroom)

What happens: Bedroom lights gradually warm from 0% to 30% over 20 minutes. Living room lights come on at 60% warm white. Kitchen at 100% cool white. Curtains open automatically.

Why it works: Singapore’s equatorial light means you won’t get natural sunrise variation to help wake you up. This simulates it, and the result is genuinely better mornings — especially for kids.

Pro tip: Use a warm colour temperature (2700K) for the bedroom and a cooler temperature (5000K) for the kitchen. This supports your circadian rhythm and helps you feel more awake at breakfast.

2. Movie Time scene

Triggered: When your TV turns on after 7pm, or a single button press.

What happens: Living room lights dim to 15% warm amber. Bias lighting behind the TV activates at 30%. Other room lights switch off or drop to 5%.

Why it works: Reduces eye strain dramatically and creates a genuinely cinematic atmosphere. Kids will actually ask you to put the movie scene on. It’s the scene that impresses guests the most.

3. Dinner scene

Triggered: Manually via voice (“Hey Siri, dinner time”) or at a set time.

What happens: Dining area lights at 80% warm white, focused overhead. Living room at 40%. Kitchen at 70%.

4. Goodnight scene

Triggered: A single tap on the bedside switch or “Goodnight” voice command.

What happens: All lights across the entire home ramp down to 0% over 3 minutes. Aircon sets to sleep temperature. Doors confirm locked. A gentle confirmation tone sounds (optional).

Why it works: The whole-home off in one tap is universally the feature homeowners say they can’t live without after experiencing it.

5. Away / Leaving Home scene

Triggered: When the last person leaves (via geofencing or manually).

What happens: All lights off. Aircon off. TV off. Security system arms. Hot water heater to eco mode.

“The Goodnight scene is what sells smart homes. Every single time we demo it — whole house off, aircon set, doors confirmed, in one command — there’s a visible reaction.”

These five scenes are included in every BeSmarter Home installation as standard. We fine-tune the timing, temperatures, and triggers to match how your specific household actually lives.
