What makes a smart lock suitable for Singapore?
Singapore’s climate creates unique challenges for smart locks: high humidity, tropical heat, and frequent rain exposure (especially for main doors facing corridors). Not all locks handle this well — we’ve seen electronics corrode within 18 months in poorly designed models.
Our assessments are based on 3+ years of field data across 1,300+ Singapore installations.
The top 6 models ranked
- #1 — Igloohome Mortise M2 — Singapore-designed and tested. Excellent humidity resistance, outstanding app, PIN + fingerprint + key card. Our most recommended for HDB main doors.
- #2 — Yale YDM7220 — Flagship from the most trusted lock brand in Singapore. Biometric fingerprint is fast and reliable. Built like a vault door.
- #3 — Samsung SHP-DP609 — Korean build quality, excellent for condo units, great fingerprint sensor. The pull handle design is premium.
- #4 — Philips Alpha Series EasyKey — Budget-friendly with solid features. Best choice if you want a reliable, no-frills upgrade from a traditional digital lock.
- #5 — Schlage Encode Plus — Best HomeKit integration if you’re in the Apple ecosystem. Not the prettiest, but rock-solid reliability.
- #6 — Aqara Smart Door Lock U100 — Best for integrating into a broader smart home ecosystem. Works natively with HomeKit, Alexa, and Google Home.
Always keep a physical key backup. Smart locks have batteries. All good models alert you when battery is low, but always keep a physical key somewhere safe — not in the home.
What to look for beyond brand name
Fingerprint speed matters more than you think. A lock that takes 2 seconds to recognise your finger versus 0.3 seconds makes a huge difference in daily life. Test this in-store before buying.
Check the IP rating. For HDB corridor-facing doors and landed homes, look for IP65 or higher — this ensures protection against dust and water jets.
“The best smart lock is the one your whole family will actually use. A fingerprint that doesn’t recognise your helper or your elderly parent creates friction — and friction means people stop using it.”
Installation notes
Most smart locks are a straight swap for your existing mortise or rim lock. The installation takes 30–90 minutes and requires no hacking or electrical work. We install all six models on this list and can usually complete it in a single visit.
