The data behind the claim
We surveyed 87 BeSmarter Home customers who installed smart aircon control in 2025. The average electricity bill reduction was 28.4%, with the top quartile seeing over 35% savings. These aren’t estimates — these are real SP Group bill comparisons from real Singapore households.
Where the savings come from
- Geofencing auto-off — The single biggest contributor. Aircon left running in an empty home is the #1 electricity waste we see. Smart geofencing turns it off when the last person leaves and on 20 minutes before anyone arrives home. Average saving: 12%.
- Sleep mode automation — Running aircon at 24°C instead of 20°C after midnight. Most people don’t notice the temperature difference when asleep. Average saving: 8%.
- Occupancy-based control — Turning off or reducing aircon in unoccupied rooms. If the kids are in the living room, the bedroom aircon doesn’t need to be running at full blast. Average saving: 6%.
- Usage analytics — Simply seeing your usage data causes behavioural changes. Knowing your aircon ran for 22 hours yesterday makes you more conscious. Average saving: 3%.
The 25°C myth: Setting your aircon to 25°C instead of 20°C doesn’t save as much as you think if you leave it running all day. The on/off scheduling matters far more than the temperature setting.
What you need for smart aircon control
If your aircon uses a remote control (virtually all Singapore split units do), you can add smart control without replacing the unit. A smart IR blaster or dedicated smart AC controller sits near the indoor unit and sends commands — the same as your remote, but via Wi-Fi and automation.
For ducted systems or central aircon in larger homes, we use dedicated smart controllers that integrate directly with the unit.
“The family that surprised us most was a 5-room HDB in Sengkang. Their bill dropped from $380 to $248 in the first full month. That’s $1,600 a year saved — the smart home paid for itself in under two years.”
We include aircon integration in all our standard packages. The sensors and automation are set up during installation day — you start seeing savings from the first week.
